The Clutter Clinic |
|||||||
In June's clinic... Jo said: "I hate opening my post. I leave it unopened for weeks on end. I pay my bills by direct debit so it doesn't seem worth looking at. There's piles of mail everywhere, I've started stuffing it in drawers. Can you give me any advice?" Sue answered: Jo, you are not alone. Many of the clients I work with share this problem. Most mail that comes through our doors these days is junk mail so I understand your reluctance to open it. First you need to deal with the backlog. Get a box and gather up all your unopened mail. Sit down and sort it into 3 categories 1. Chuck - put in the bin or recycling 2. File - important documents such as car insurance 3. Action - pay in cheques, answer a letter. You need a filing tray to keep these in. I know some clients find this very difficult. Try working in 10 minute chunks (use a timer), then do something else and come back to it later on for another 10 minutes. For the future open your post daily. Make it a new habit. 6 letters daily won't take long but imagine facing 42 by the end of the week! Good luck |
