The Clutter Clinic

In May's clinic...

Peter asked: My home is bulging at the seams? Where do I start to sort things out. I feel panicky when I start and so I walk away. How can I tell if something is clutter?

Sue answers:

Check out the May clutter tip for a gentle programme to start decluttering.

You are not alone Peter, many people find decluttering difficult. Things we own become closely associated with our identity, so it can be hard to let them go.

Deciding whether something is clutter is all about being honest with yourself. If you haven't used or worn something in the last year it's unlikely you'll use it again. Ask yourself do I enjoy owning this? It's easy to get hung up about how much something cost or how long you've owned it or who gave it to you. Always start with the areas you find easiest. Very few people are sentimental about towels or socks.

You can do it. But if you would prefer someone to help you, I can work with you to ease you through the process.

Good luck
